On Feb. 26, hundreds of Collingwood residents will be braving the cold temperatures to raise money to help young people who need shelter.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a national event that raises funds for 167 charities across Canada. Participants walk 10 kilometres to support those in need.

Home Horizon, operators of the Barbara Weider House — a transitional home for homeless youth — hopes to raise more than $125,000.

“We live in a community that cares deeply about the well-being of others,” said Alison Smith, co-chair of the event.

“South Georgian Bay is a tight-knit community that understands the value of the work we are doing. They are showing the youth of our community that their safety is a priority and that their future is important.”
