The Home Horizon Board of Directors is recruiting people from all walks of life who seek to serve the community and improve the quality of life for youth at risk, and those actively experiencing homelessness. New members will help inform and grow the capacity of our organization and to:

  • think and act inclusively and reflect diverse perspectives to build strong relationships

  • identify solutions to address pressing community and regional issues facing youth in relation to the instances of, and social determinants of homelessness. 

Home Horizon is a human-service organization that exists so that youth at-risk of homelessness can live productive lives in a supportive and accepting community.

Home Horizon welcomes applications from all individuals including a wide range of professional disciplines & experience, youth (18 – 29 years), those with lived experience, LGBTQ+ community members, racialized persons, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, those recently immigrated and other equity-seeking groups.

Key expectations of Board Members:

  • Be actively engaged to identify areas for growth in our existing strategy.

  • Attend Board meetings and functions (remotely and in person).

  • Participate on a minimum of one working committee. 

  • Contribute expertise, advice and informed perspective to discussions and decisions.

  • Act and observe the principles of good governance and fiduciary responsibility according to our Board Policy Manual.

  • Support fundraising and activities.

Skills and qualifications we seek:

  • Board/governance experience (or strong willingness to learn).

  • Legal/Accounting/HR acumen

  • Experience in business development

  • Knowledge of community strengths and local issues in South Georgian Bay. 

  • Understanding and connection to a number of diverse social demographics.

  • Desire and capacity to inspire and engage others for the benefit of our community

Time Commitment

The commitment is for a three-year term.  Approximately 6 hours a month would be dedicated to activities/meetings in-person or electronically, historically breaking through the month of August. 

Participation on a Board working committee is included in this time commitment.
