Summer News from Home Horizon & The Barbara Weider House
Hope is in the air and change is on the horizon. With the new ease in Covid-19 restrictions, we want to wish you a summer that is safe and happy. Through the most recent lockdown, our youth have demonstrated a level of maturity and resilience that is both astounding and admirable. Covid has been hard on even the strongest individuals and for that reason, we are so proud of how the youth in the Barbara Weider House have dealt with the ebb and flow of this pandemic.
Bowled over by the support and talent in our community.
Bowls for Beds (and Bids!) was an AMAZING event! With lead sponsor Crozier & Associates Consulting Engineers, we hosted two events: the sale of beautiful, hand-painted bowls that local, elementary school students made; and our inaugural “Bowls for Bids” where we auctioned 24 unique, hand-painted bowls by local, celebrated artists. We hosted the auction on instagram to garner new attention in hopes of finding more donors to increase awareness of our organization. Through these initiatives, we were able to successfully raise roughly $30,000 and reached almost 3,500 people! Thank you to all of our sponsors for supporting this event. Follow our journey including more great pictures from the event on instagram.
The Picnic Project is back!
Celebrate summer with a basket of goodness from Roadrunner Foods a fun, summer-filled way of enjoying good food, good company, and most importantly, a chance to do good!! Menu options include Georgian Bay Surf & Turf, Mindful Vegetarian, Slider, or Vineyard, and are delivered to your door. The picnics are perfect for date night, an anniversary, wedding present, beach time or some much needed solo time in nature. Thank you to our generous event partners for putting on this event: Roadrunner Foods, The Pop-Up Event Event Company, the Print Shop, Craigleith B&B and MyCollingwood.ca

Current Needs - Gift Certificates & Tents
Our Outreach Program is always in need of on-going gift cards for places like Tim Hortons, Walmart, Pita Pit and more. We are also looking for tents. If you have a gently used, but no longer in use, tent, we would welcome the donation. If you would like to donate any of these items, please contact Fund Development Manager Deb Piggott: debpiggott@homehorizon.ca
About Home Horizon: Our mission is to transform the lives of youth at risk of homelessness by providing them with the opportunity to rebuild their lives and achieve their full potential. These youth are in the process of transitioning into adulthood, and due to challenging circumstances, may not yet have acquired the health, personal, social, and life skills that make independent living possible. We offer access to counselling and programs to help these youth successfully rebuild their lives and transition to independent living and adulthood. Our support programs help them learn life skills, create positive relationships with peers and adults, and re-engage with school, employment training, and/or employment.
